Are you interested in history or art or museum management? Are you new to the museum world and looking for hands-on experience? Then the Middletown Historical Society is the place for you!

The Middletown Historical Society collects, preserves, educates, and encourages the development of Middletown’s history in order to foster historic awareness and pride in our community. Since the museum was founded, the collection has increased to more than 3,000 accessioned objects, which include tools, textiles, paintings, works on paper, furniture, toys, and other materials pertaining to life in Middletown.

Responsibilities

The internship, which is a hybrid distance and in-person program, focuses on the design and implementation of online exhibitions, as well as the de-installation and installation of a permanent exhibition. Interns work on cataloging, inventorying, and caring for collections. They assist with special events, education programs, and other duties as needed. Interns focus on a project that will give them significant experience in the workplace. Interns are expected to work some Saturdays as necessary.

Qualifications

Interns may be students in an undergraduate program or graduate program. Applicants must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and may have experience with website design, especially through WordPress. Applicants should have an interest in history, the arts, agriculture, or museum work. Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills are preferred. May have experience with PastPerfect collection management museum software.
